GAIL L. PETERSON
MAYOR
Gail has lived on Kirkwood Road for 26 years
and has served as a Councilwoman for the past 15 years. The last
two years Gail has been the Council President.
A former teacher, Gail is employed by the
Camden County Board of Elections in Pennsauken as an Administrator.
The proud parent of two recently married sons,
Butch and Eric, Gail believes that their growth and achievements
are the result of our close community, an excellent school system
and Gibbsboro families working together as neighbors and friends.
A community activist Gail has always believed
service as an elected official is an honor and privilege that
should never be taken for granted. Gail wants to continue to
serve resident's needs by finding solutions to daily problems,
listen and learn, and continue to provide a stable tax base for
our future.
Gail was one of the first supporters of the
Gibbsboro Green Acres Program, developed the first recycling
program and fought against the elimination of the Borough Library
after the Borough Hall fire in the eighties. In the last two
years the Republican majority has made government more accessible
to its citizens through programs and activities that bring us
all closer together. Gail's next goal is to help plan and begin
the renovation of the neighborhood playground at Lauer field,
continue with the sidewalk and road restoration program, seek
grants for a recreation and community center at the Radar Base
and continue making Gibbsboro the safest town to live and raise
a family.
Of special interest to Gail is KIDS VOTING
NEW JERSEY, an affiliate of the national nonprofit organization
designed to educate school students in grades K-12 about America's
electoral process. The curriculum involves comprehensive classroom
activities that culminates with the students going to their actual
polling place with their parents on Election Day and voting in
a simulated election. Students develop informed voting habits
early in life that will continue into adulthood. In Camden County,
Clementon Elementary Students will be the first school to participate
in the pilot program this November.
Teamwork, compromise and bi-partisanship are
what makes Government work best when all Council has an equal
amount of responsibility! Proper delegation of authority determines
true leadership ability. As Mayor, Gail will continue to seek
out responsible professionals to help provide affordable economic
solutions to borough problems. A Mayor must provide leadership
with a full discussion of all issues without demeaning or embarrassing
our concerned residents, our hired professionals, or council
members when disagreement occurs. A Mayor should always be the
voice of reason, fairness and above all respect.
